Pride and Prejudice is a novel that was published in 1813 by the famous writer Jane Austen. Along with its magnitude as a novel, many a film adaptations have appeared. In this case we are comparing two of the many adaptations created in all these years. The adaptations are being discussed are the Pride and Prejudice: A Latter-Day Comedy and  the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies movie. These are very great adaptations of the novel, but they are very different from each other, which explores the creativity of different producers. The zombie movie is aimed to a mature audience, since it incorporates the violence and gruesomeness of zombies, while the comedy adaptation is a very modern and passive movie that could possibly have no age restriction.
For a movie to be successful, they need to have all the characteristics necessary to be able to engage with the audience. In the comedy adaptation delivers a presentation of the novel with very modernized subjects and acting styles. The Bennet sisters are very energetic, and act as any regular young girl. The fact of using a contemporary cast is very attractive to younger audiences even though the context of the novel is very antique. The use of emails and cars in the adaptation are some of the examples used in the modern movie. The relationship between the sisters is also very well portrayed and is a perfect example of how the dynamic between siblings is today, including their vocabulary and body language. The clothing used by everyone is just magnificent, including the tuxedo of Collins and the dresses of the girls. The movie appears to be almost as a live video of how a family relationship would be like. After all it is just like a regular comedy were it almost seems to be a movie for young kids. The producers went all inn working with the characters emotions in both the zombie and the comedy movie. A good example about the characters emotions is the scenes were Elizabeth rejects Mr. Collins and Elizabeth stays calm, but Collins is very frustrated in the comedy movie. In the other hand, on the zombie adaptation, Mr. Collins stays calm when he is rejected but Elizabeth reaction is much more of a dramatic and emotional stress and is even more evident when she encounters her parents about her decision.
The P&P Zombie is a peculiar, but very interesting movie in which the producers add zombies and a thriller aspect to it. It is definitely one of the best adaptations anyone could ever watch. The movie follows the main and essential storyline of the novel, but it adds to the setting and climate with the presence of the zombie aspect. This movie is projected as a more antique setting than the comedy, but it is also modern in language and acting. The sisters and the entire family have a very contemporary relationship, but in the other hand, instead of having cars and email as part of the movies every day life, the zombies adaptation is still demonstrating the age of horses and carriages  as transportation as well as the use of regular mail letters. The zombie scenes and fighting capabilities of this movie give a total different perception of the story. We all know that P&P novel and adaptations have the message of acknowledging the respect for women and their own self-esteem. In this movie all the sisters demonstrate how capable of dealing with trouble hey are and how close they are as siblings when they show ther martial arts knowledge since the very beginning at the part at Bingley’s. Interconnecting the swords, guns and action in a novel like this one is incredible. No one could ever imagine how it would get along so well with violence and giving the characters a fighting rebellious aspect. In the scene were Jane is going to Bingleys in her horse and encounters the zombie, we can appreciate how spectacular this all combines. In the scene were the sisters are walking with Collins, they also demonstrate their techniques when the girls confront the zombie and shoot at his head. For this reason this movie is intendd for a more mature audience. All of these things happen without getting off the story line.
In the other hand, the comedy movie is modernized to an absolute extreme. It can be appreciated from the very beginning were instead of attending a formal party were Jane and Elizabeth meet Bingley and Collins, they just show up to a typical yard fest. When that scene is compared to the zombies movie it impacts the viewer because two different settings are portrayed, but representing the same scene. In addition to the action scenes, in both adaptations there is a modern physical appearance of characters that is appealing to watch. That detail of characterization enhances the appreciation of the viewer immensely.
The Zombie movie has a broader list of details that generally enhances the movie as a whole. Women are shown to control and dominate anything with their skills. These techniques also send a moral message to viewers about the respect women should be treated with. There are not many movies that depict such traits in non-male characters. There is no doubt that these adaptations are very different and that they show particular strategies of formatting a movie text. The Zombie aspect transforms a typical women romance story into a scary, sudden and unpredictable film.
